Wilder on Usyk possibly taking part in his showdown against Helenius: “I hope he takes notes”

Oleksandr Usyk quickly sifted through the heavyweight landscape before coming to an overarching realization, virtually no one was worthy of his time.

Just a few short weeks ago, Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) solidified his position as one of the top fighters in the world with another victory over Anthony Joshua. Shortly after sending the British star back to the drawing board, Usyk claimed that unless he shared the ring with Tyson Fury, he found it unnecessary to continue his career.

But in the wake of Deontay Wilder’s sudden ring return, the former Olympic gold medalist began singing a different tune.

On October 15, at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KOs) will take on fringe contender Robert Helenius. In the evening, a fascinated Usyk has already confirmed that he plans to be present. After learning of the Ukrainian’s plan, Wilder admits he’s looking forward to facing the current overall heavyweight champion.

“I heard Usyk will be there,” Wilder told FightHype.com. “I’m looking forward to seeing him. It’s going to be a great fight, it’s going to be a great card overall.”

Long before Usyk strolled his way into the heavyweight division in 2019, Wilder was, in the minds of many, considered the division’s biggest, brightest and deadliest star. Nevertheless, after back-to-back defeats at the hands of Fury, Wilder’s time atop the heavyweight mountain came to an end.

In what will be his first appearance since facing Fury, Wilder will be looking to get back into the win column. At this point, with Usyk seemingly ready, willing and able to give Wilder a crack at his heavyweight titles, the Alabama native is well aware that Usyk will do much more than just play the role of an innocent bystander trying to see a good old fashioned heavyweight. scrap.

In all likelihood, the smooth-hitting southpaw may be spending his time scouting Wilder up close. Flattered by that very opportunity, Wilder offers to give Usyk a pen and paper before giving him an incredible show on October 15th.

“I hope he’s taking notes.”
