Barcelona are ready to leave Frenkie de Jong from their squad for their pre-season tour, if he refuses a switch to Manchester United, it has been claimed. The Dutch national team player is Erik ten Hag’s top goal at Old Trafford. However, there is still no guarantee that a move will take place.
Manchester United have finally agreed a fee with Barcelona for De Jong.
But with the midfielder happy at the Nou Camp, it is still uncertain whether he will switch to Old Trafford.
Now the Catalan newspaper Sport has claimed that De Jong will potentially be left out of Barcelona’s squad for their upcoming pre-season tour if he chooses to stay.
The European giants feel that De Jong simply ‘must’ accept the offer ‘yes or yes’ because of their desire to get him out of the books for financial reasons.
De Jong feels he is ‘between a rock and a hard place’ after being informed of this development.
Man Utd transfers: The mouthwatering XI to tackle Brighton with 5 new signatures
As Barcelona’s need to sell only grows, it looks like it’s a matter of time before De Jong moves to the Premier League.
And that will be huge news for Ten Hag, where the Dutchman sees his compatriot as the key to his plans at Old Trafford.
De Jong is also not the only player United are working to sign.
They are confident that they will soon be able to unveil Christian Eriksen, who is ready to come after his Brentford contract expires.
United have agreed a fee with Ajax for Lisandro Martinez, who had previously been a transfer target for Arsenal.

And the Red Devils are hoping to land Antony, though that deal does not appear likely given Ajax’s £ 70m bid.
De Jong, if he were to switch to United, could take the No. 21 jersey.
That is the number he usually wears for the Dutch national team, and that is also what he wore in Ajax.
The number is currently also free after Edinson Cavani’s departure – whose contract recently expired.
Meanwhile, if United are rejected by De Jong, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook has revealed that Ruben Neves and Youri Tielemans are both alternatives.

He said: “I think they should probably go earlier, to be honest, considering the first contact between Manchester United and Barcelona was in mid-May – we are almost in mid-July.
“This is a ridiculous situation. It’s been a saga for too long. Either it’s going to happen or it’s not happening.
“I know Manchester United have a back-up list. Youri Tielemans is on that list as I understand it, just like Ruben Neves from Wolves.
“I would call Barcelona’s bluff now and say ‘either you sell him to us or we’ll pay the same money and sign Ruben Neves’.
“He is a player who is proven in the Premier League.”
