2022 British Open leaderboard: Live coverage, Tiger Woods score, golf results today in round 2 at St. Andrews

The 150th Open Championship saw a debutant rise to the top of the leaderboard as PGA Tour rookie Cameron Young stood two shots clear of the field after the opening round. With the lowest first round ever recorded by a first-time player in The Open, the Wake Forest product will look to finally enter the winning circle as he has finished second on three different occasions this season.

Young will have his work cut out for himself as 2014 champion golfer Rory McIlroy sat alone in second place when he entered round 2 on Friday. McIlroy looks set to win his first major since 2014 and get rid of his still commendable top 10 rankings that have highlighted his first three performances of its kind this season. While McIlroy is Young’s closest pursuer, Dustin Johnson jumped him up the rankings after the morning session and sat at 9 under after 36 holes. Johnson, Young, McIlroy and 2022 Masters champion Scottie Scheffler are among the big names at the top, while Round 2 continues.

Unfortunately, Tiger Woods is neither at the top of the rankings nor in battle. In fact, the opposite was true when Tiger followed a 6-over 78 on Thursday with a 2-over 75 on Friday to sit 9 against the tournament and miss the cut. Woods has not played the weekend at consecutive Opens (2019) and consecutive trips to St. Andrews (2015), as he has called his favorite golf course in the world. Tiger broke down while taking an emotional ride up the fairway last Friday, though he did not stop while waving at the Swilcan Bridge, indicating that he will probably at least try to return to the Old Course one more time, before his career is over.

With a star-studded track game, St. Andrews acts as a historic backdrop and the pressure on as this is the last major of the year, the 150th Open Championship is already becoming one to remember.
